Are You Reading The Fine Print?

You know sometimes we get so excited about something without even thinking twice about the nitty-gritty of it. The other day I had been hearing a lot about 'fine print' whether it was on the TV or online.

I find myself thinking about it. Do we actually worry about the fine print when it comes to decisions we have to make? What about the prayers we want God to answer? There are times, I think to myself why have certain things haven't happened yet in my life? Why are certain situations still the same?

You see, the real matter is, we're not really ready to do what it takes to get what we want. We want to rush and sign on the dotted lines with the hopes that if we rush, we might end up 'losing out' on the 'offer' that's before us. Have you ever felt like that? Especially when we go out shopping, the salesperson would say this offer is only for a short time, it's only for 24 hours, it's only for a limited time only, etc.

Think about it. It is so easy for them to catch us with those lines. We really believe in their words that the offer will never be around again. But then if we're strong enough a few months down the line, the same offer reappears again, with even more to gain.

So the note to self and you, my friend is this. If we say we want the best from God, we have to be willing to do the work that's required. We have to deny ourselves, we have to spend time in His words because that's where His thoughts are, we have to be discerning of what's happening around us so we are alert to make the right choices in our lives.

I'm not an expert at being a Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ). I make mistakes, I mess up, but one thing I know is this, I can't take the mercy and grace of God for granted. It's there for us all but if we take advantage of it eventually it will lose its power in our lives and we end up accepting things that we know deep down are not according to the word of God.

Reading the fine print is going back to what God requires of us and being humble enough to obey. One verse that always reminds me of this is:

'... It is better to obey than to sacrifice... ' 1 Samuel 15:22

Saul was King of Israel but he disobeyed the direction that was given to him by the prophet, Samuel. He went and did his own thing and because of that God rejected him as King. So the prophet Samuel told him those exact words plus a few more.

If we miss the fine print, we have a lot to lose. If we are in the hands of the devil, God can save us, but if we're under the wrath of God who can save us from Him? My heart burns with fear when I think about this. It is better to be on the side of God and that means to obey His voice, His words and His direction. When we focus too much on the microwave route rather than the slow cooker route we will always miss the mark.

If the Creator of the universe is capable of managing it all without our help what makes you think your problem is too much for him to solve?

Think with me, if you were to be on a plane in the sky and you look down on earth. What is the size of the people walking and going about their business? They look small don't they? Do they look as big as they are when you're looking in their faces back on earth? For me, I was as shocked when I was on a plane for the first time and realised this simple thing.

Before God, we are nothing compared to His majesty. Yet, he created us in His own image, He knew we were not capable of being perfect so he sent His perfect Son in our place to represent us before Him. How amazing!!

PS. Reading the fine print makes you aware of what you're entitled to, but if you don't you could be paying for something you won't get access to in the end. This can relate to both your spiritual or physical life.

Until next time.
